Hardship is unconditional. It doesn't come with a contract, a settled duration, nor does it come with any stipulated conditions. It comes as it does and it goes as it does. It is all very much dependent on the individual - the patience and tolerance which is exerted. -
But what you must know, is that hardship is not intended as a punishment. Allah does not wish to punish you, rather it is a sign of His mercy and compassion. He lets you suffer little in this world so that you may enjoy a lot in the next. -
This may be hard to comprehend, but it is the truth. Allah expiates a person's sins through hardship and He raises their rank through it. It is all but a means of giving. He gives and He gives and that is why we should be grateful to be His slaves. Because there is no Master more generous than Him. -
Your friend or loved one who sees you in hardship, who acknowledges the pain in your eyes and watches your tears fall, such a person is filled with compassion for you so much so that they wish they could remove it immediately. But this mercy in their heart is a mercy of Allah. It is an indication of His mercy towards you. He makes people a means of comfort, but you must always remember that He is the ultimate source of comfort and relief. -
So let your reliance and trust lie in Him. When you are sincere, deeply sincere, He will respond to your request and give you even better than that which you desire. Perhaps you may have to sacrifice or be selfless, but the reward of doing so is great. Because His reward is always greater than your giving, by means of sacrifice. -
Don't give up and don't lose hope. Remember that Allah cares for you infinitely and only wishes good for you. He only wishes to save you from harm. So supplicate sincerely for an easy, comfortable life, one in which closeness to Him is maintained without the need for hardship. -
